Golf Holidays. In Tenerife, golf holidays have become the ultimate growth industry. Playing golf all year round is no problem on Tenerife. If there is a problem at all, it is to find top quality accomodation in a select area at an attractive price.

Golf del Sur

Golf del Sur, Tenerife is Tenerife's leading PGA golf course with accomodation to match its select status. You can play golf on Tenerife all year round but it is really much too hot to play in the height of the day in July and August. In these months and sometimes in June and September, the real enthusiasts play early in the morning or in the evening. Tenerife has a pretty grim reputation in some people's minds but you should not confuse the plastic and flashing, Blackpool in the sun image that you may have of Las Americos with the sophistication of Golf del Sur. This is a haven in which the lager lout feels ill at ease!

Golf Courses on Tenerife

There are in fact a number of excellent golf courses on Tenerife - there is however no question that Golf del Sur is the best in the south of the island. Located only 10 minutes from Tenerife's southern airport it is within walking distance of the fishing village of Los Abrigos. Most golf holiday makers stay in an apartment or villa on the course. Accomodation standards are very high indeed but even the most luxurious apartments will cost as little as £100 per person week. You can also stay in accomodation off the golf courses and drive to the course for a round - accomodation can cost as little as £75 per person per week in one of the many developments that are within a few drive of Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf - visit Parque don Jose in Costa del Silencio near Las Galletas.

Self Catering Golf Holidays on Tenerife

Most people go self-catering. Our own apartment on Ocean Golf and Country Club is well equipped including an external Bar-B-Q, dishwasher, washing machine and satellite TV. There are now excellent supermarkets on Tenerife with fish, meat and cheese sections of the standard of those that you find in France. The truth is that eating out in Tenerife if so very inexpensive that most choose to eat out every night. Los Abrigos (a delightful fishing village that has become a cluster of excellent fish restaurants) is widely regarded as an expensive place to eat in the evening but even here a couple would be pressed to spend more than 7,000 (roughly £27) pesetas. This would include two courses, bottle of wine, a couple of beers and fish including sole, mussels and squid. Although Los Abrigos is a delight, you can save a lot of money and enjoy a wide variety of cuisine by driving for a very few minutes. In the hills above Las Americos, Los Cristianos and within minutes drive of the apartment you will find excellent restaurants in which a couple can eat in styles for as little as £7.50 a head. Here is the other piece of really good news - car hire is very inexpensive and petrol is for all practical purposes free of charge (I do jest but please see below)!

Tenerife Car Hire

You can rent a small car (the Ford Ka or a Seat Panda) from around £80 per week. Excellent value is a Ford Escort or Focus with air conditioning for around £120 per week. At the time of writing, petrol is around £1.50 per gallon and diesel considerably less!
